Our Social Purpose
At PROCons, our social purpose is to create opportunities for marginalised youth through employment, training and personal development in the construction industry.
We support young people through their transition into the workforce, helping them build the skills, confidence and track record to achieve economic independence, social inclusion and a sense of belonging.
We are establishing a structured pathway program around this purpose and are working toward certification as a social enterprise.
Who We Support
Our program is for marginalised young people who face real barriers to getting into work. This includes young people who have left school early, have been unemployed for a long period, are leaving care, are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, have had contact with the justice system, or are from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
Employment Opportunities
- We create jobs for marginalised youth by winning and delivering civil, electrical and traffic signal projects.
- Young people start in entry-level civil and site roles, working alongside experienced crews on real projects.
- Our aim is stable, ongoing employment, not short-term placements.
A Pathway Into a Trade
We are establishing a staged pathway so every young person can see where the work leads:
- Job readiness Site safety, core tickets and what to expect on a construction site.
- On-the-job training Hands-on experience in civil works, construction safety standards, industry best practice and working with clients and suppliers.
- Formal qualifications Nationally recognised training in civil construction through registered training providers.
- Electrical apprenticeships For those who show the aptitude and commitment, a pathway into an electrical apprenticeship under the supervision of our licensed electricians.
Tickets and Formal Training
We facilitate access to formal training through external providers, including:
- Construction White Card
- First aid
- Plant and machinery training and licensing
- Traffic management
- Rail inductions where required
Wrap-Around Support
- We are establishing a partnership with a specialist youth support organisation to provide referrals and case management, so young people have support with things like housing, transport and wellbeing beyond the worksite.
- On site, each young person will be paired with an experienced mentor who helps them settle into the crew and the work.
- We will connect young people with other support services that help them build confidence and succeed in their working and personal lives.
Pathways Beyond PROCons
Some young people will find their long-term future elsewhere, and that is a success too. We support each person with a transition plan, help with job searching and interviews, and connections to other employers and recruitment agencies.
Measuring Our Impact
We are establishing impact tracking across the program, including the number of young people employed, hours worked, training completed, qualifications gained, and the number who move into ongoing employment.
