Public Lighting Pole Relocation Completed Within Tight Project Timeframes

PROCons recently completed the successful relocation of a public lighting pole to accommodate the installation of new overhead power infrastructure being undertaken by utility authorities.

The project required careful planning, detailed service investigations, and efficient execution within a restricted working window to ensure the new infrastructure could be installed without delaying the broader network upgrade.

Safety and Service Protection First

Before any excavation works commenced, our team undertook comprehensive underground service investigations to identify and verify existing assets within the work zone.

Using non-destructive digging (NDD) techniques, we safely exposed and positively identified underground services to confirm their location and depth. This process was critical in maintaining site safety and preventing potential impacts to existing infrastructure owned by other service authorities.

By positively identifying services before excavation, the team minimised the risk of asset strikes, service interruptions, and costly damage while ensuring compliance with industry best practices.

Scope of Works

The relocation works involved:

  • Non-destructive digging and positive identification of underground services
  • Rock drilling for the new pole foundation
  • Installation of underground conduits
  • Installation of new service pits
  • Installation of new electrical cabling
  • Removal and relocation of the public lighting pole
  • Testing and commissioning of the relocated lighting asset

With existing services located throughout the work area and significant traffic volumes surrounding the site, the project required precise coordination between crews, traffic management personnel, and stakeholders.

Working Under Challenging Conditions

The works were carried out within a limited construction window, requiring multiple tasks to be completed efficiently and safely to meet project deadlines.

The team navigated challenging ground conditions requiring rock drilling while also managing a high-traffic environment. Careful scheduling and coordination ensured excavation, conduit installation, pit construction, cabling, and pole installation activities were completed within the available timeframe.

Importantly, the majority of electrical works were undertaken on an isolated network, allowing the team to complete the relocation safely while minimising disruption and maintaining compliance with all relevant safety requirements.

Delivering Infrastructure Solutions

Projects such as this demonstrate PROCons’ capability to deliver complex public lighting and electrical infrastructure works in demanding environments.

From underground service investigations and non-destructive digging through to rock drilling, civil construction, cable installation, and final commissioning, our team successfully delivered the project safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

We are proud of the professionalism displayed by our crews and the collaborative effort that ensured the relocation was completed within a short working window while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and asset protection.

Whether it’s public lighting, underground utilities, electrical infrastructure, service relocations, or civil construction works, PROCons has the experience and capability to deliver successful outcomes for our clients and stakeholders.
